A tea set is a long-term buy. The questions that matter most are how many people you host, whether it can go in the dishwasher, and whether you can replace a broken cup later.

What a tea set usually includes
A full tea service normally has a teapot, milk jug, sugar bowl, and cups with saucers. Some also include tea plates (for sandwiches and cake) and a cake plate. Check what is actually in the box: a "12-piece set" might mean 6 cups and 6 saucers with no teapot.
How many settings?
Buy for the largest group you regularly host, plus one or two spares. Open-stock ranges (sold as individual pieces) let you add or replace items later, which is worth paying for.

Care
Gold or platinum decoration is not microwave-safe and is usually hand-wash only. If you want to use your tea set every day, check the dishwasher rating before you buy.
