Types
| Type | How it works | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cup strainer | Leaves brew loose; you strain as you pour | Best flavour; traditional | Tea keeps brewing in the pot |
| Basket infuser | A deep mesh basket sits in the pot or cup | Leaves have room; lift out to stop brewing | Must fit your pot |
| Tea ball | A small mesh ball | Cheap, compact | Too small: leaves can't expand |
Look for
- Fine stainless mesh that catches small leaves.
- A basket deep enough to reach the water in your pot.
- A drip tray or saucer for the strainer.
See our guide to teapots, many of which include a basket infuser.
