  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cold butter, cubed Ensure butter is really cold for a flakier dough.
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Can substitute with other extracts for variation.
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt together.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter and mix with a fork or your hands until you get a sandy texture.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before using.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface and use it to line a tart pan.

Notes

If you have leftover dough, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze it for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before using.
