Equipment

  • Teapot (berrad or heat-resistant teapot)
  • Small glasses
  • Kettle
  • Spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp gunpowder green tea leaves
  • 3 cups water fresh, filtered
  • 1 large handful fresh mint leaves preferably spearmint
  • 2-3 tbsp sugar adjust to taste

Instructions

  • Rinse the tea leaves: Place tea leaves in the teapot, add a small amount of hot water, swirl, and pour out to remove bitterness.
  • Brew the green tea: Add 3 cups boiling water to the rinsed tea leaves. Steep for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add fresh mint and sugar: Add a generous handful of mint leaves and 2-3 tablespoons sugar to the teapot. Stir gently to dissolve sugar and release mint aroma.
  • Let it infuse: Allow the tea to infuse for another 3-5 minutes, depending on desired mint strength.
  • Pour and serve: Pour tea from a height into small glasses to aerate and create a frothy layer. Repeat pouring a few times to mix flavors evenly.

Notes

For a more authentic flavor, use spearmint and a traditional Moroccan teapot. Adjust sugar to taste. Try adding lemon verbena or orange blossom water for a twist.
