Ingredients
  

  • 3 hot dogs halved
  • 6 mozzarella cheese sticks halved
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar plus more for coating
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 6 wooden skewers
  • as needed oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • Thread each skewer with half a hot dog and half a mozzarella stick.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add egg and milk, mixing until a thick batter forms.
  • Pour panko breadcrumbs onto a plate.
  • Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  • Dip each skewer into the batter, coating evenly, then roll in panko breadcrumbs.
  • Fry corn dogs in batches for 3–4 minutes, turning until golden brown and crispy.
  • Drain on paper towels. While still warm, roll in sugar if desired.
  • Serve hot with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For a potato version, press diced frozen fries onto the batter before frying. Try different cheeses or use plant-based hot dogs for a vegetarian option. Best enjoyed fresh and hot.
