  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture until just blended.
  • Roll the dough into small balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Flatten the balls slightly with a fork or your hands.
  • Optionally, add sprinkles or icing on top.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

To keep your butter cookies fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. For longer storage, freeze them, ensuring they're well wrapped. If the dough is too soft, chill for 30 minutes before baking.
